Studio Guidelines
Welcome to Flame & Form Studio
We’re excited to have you join our creative community! Our goal is to make sure your experience here is fun, safe, and inspiring. Please take a few minutes to read through these studio guidelines before you begin working. If you have any questions, just ask your instructor.
Safety First
Required: Safety glasses and closed-toe shoes at all times.
Hair: Long hair must be tied back while working.
Clothing: Wear natural fibers (cotton, wool, linen) and avoid synthetics. Aprons made from natural fibers are encouraged. *We have denim aprons available for purchase.
If you’re unsure how to use something, stop and ask—we’re always happy to help.
Studio Care & Cleanliness
Leave your workspace cleaner than you found it.
Use the last 15 minutes of class or open studio to clean and return tools.
This is a shared space, so we all pitch in to keep it tidy.
Tools & Equipment
Tools are for in-studio use only—never take them home or store them in lockers or benches.
Tool color codes:
Teal: General studio use
Report damaged or broken tools immediately.
As a small studio, individuals may be held financially responsible for damage.
Food & Drinks
No eating in the studio workspace—it’s unsafe and unsanitary.
Eating is welcome in the kitchen area only.
Waste and recycle bins are located by the back door.
Resource Conservation & Recycling
Start class with a clean shop towel and place it in the dirty bin after use.
Shop towels are for cleaning metal and surfaces; paper towels are for hands.
Use city recycling bins for paper, plastic, and metal cans.
Place clean metal scraps (no glue or paper) in the dedicated scrap bin.
Injuries & Incidents
If you get hurt or notice unsafe conditions, tell your instructor or shop monitor immediately.
Safety is always our top priority.
Phone & Recording Policy
Video or audio recording of lessons or demos is not allowed.
Bring a notebook and pen for taking notes.
Still photography may be allowed—ask your instructor first.
Cancellations & Refunds
No refunds for no-shows or personal/traveling change of schedules.
Missed classes (multi-session courses only) can be made up during open studio hours within 2 weeks of the course end date.
We reserve the right to cancel or discontinue any class. If that happens, you may choose:
A class credit for a different course
Tuition credit for future use (valid for 6 months)
Community & Accessibility Policies
At Flame & Form Metals Studio, we are committed to creating a welcoming, respectful, and collaborative environment for all members of our community. We strive to provide a safe and supportive space where every student can focus on learning and creating.
Because metalsmithing involves the use of tools, torches, equipment, and standing workstations, we ask that students inform us in advance of any physical limitations that may affect access to workbenches, soldering stations, or studio equipment. This allows us to determine how best to support your participation. The Studio reserves the right to determine whether reasonable accommodations can be made within the limitations of the facility and equipment. We cannot guarantee that all areas of the studio are fully accessible.
If you have language considerations that may impact your ability to fully understand technical instruction, please let us know prior to registration so we can discuss whether the class format will meet your needs. Our main instructor is 100% bilingual( English/Spanish) so please feel free to communicate with us in Spanish if needed.
Before registering, we encourage you to:
• Speak directly with Laura Q to schedule a brief assessment conversation.
• Email us at info@flame-formstudio.com to discuss any questions or concerns.
Our goal is to ensure that every student is placed in a class environment where they can safely and successfully engage with our instruction methods.
